WHAT
IS THE CODE OF CONDUCT
FOR COARSE ANGLERS?
The National Angling Alliance
“Code of Conduct for Coarse Anglers” has now been published, and we
are extremely pleased that The Prince of Wales has given it his full
support. A full page introduction from the Prince is given at the
start of the Code.
The document is based on the
former SACG Code but is now widened to include all coarse angling, and
has been prepared in conjunction with the whole of the NAA, which
comprises all the Angling Governing bodies of NFA, S&TA, NFSA, plus
NAFAC, ATA and ourselves SAA. We can do no better than to quote
Professor David Bellamy, who said about this booklet;
“A giant leap in the right
direction, a Code of Conduct for the fishers that puts the Environment
first. Great news for the fish and for the waters of Britain.”
That nicely sums up how we feel
about it, another great step forward that allows us to interact
sympathetically with the other conservationists who share our waters,
and to protect our quarry!
The Code sets out to offer guidelines on angling
best practice, safe rigs and fish care, and how to fish with proper
consideration for other anglers. Bank-side management and care for the
environment generally is looked at in some depth, including detailed
consideration for all wildlife. We also cover fish movements and
diseases, fish handling, EA byelaws, stock densities and conservation
of predators, to cover all aspects of our sport. At the other end of
the scale newcomers to the sport are catered for too, by reproducing
the Environment Agencies "Angling and Wildlife Golden Rules", an
excellent simplified guide for those starting fishing.
